Tuesday Evening

Matt had an OK day today. He slept a lot and coughed up prodigious amounts of bright yellow phlegm. This is due to the tracheitis (infection in the trachea area, probably from the tracheostomy). The effects of the Ifosfamide seem to be wearing off as he is not fidgety any more and he hasn't has any weird dreams today (that I know of). I am hopeful that the 3 antibiotics he is on will begin to eliminate the tracheitis.

Matt just finished his last dose of Etoposide for this chemo cycle. Since he is not getting the Ifosfamide, that's it for the chemo meds this cycle, except for the rescue drugs.

They have re-started his tube feeds at a lower rate but something is better than nothing.

He is now playing on his computer and watching ESPN (raise your hand if this surprises you). The only reason he is watching ESPN is because the lousy hospital cable doesn't have the Food network. I mean really, the number one hospital in the country has cable that barely qualifies as basic cable. Please!

WARNING - Mildly political talk below

I was looking at my Explanation of Benefits on line today and noticed that the air ambulance flight to get Matt here to JH cost $16,500 which my insurance company (United Health Care) paid without blinking. Maybe these companies are not so "evil" and "profit mongering" after all. Or maybe I just have a "Cadillac plan" which will be eliminated if the current plan in Congress goes thru.

  1. I really like that Matt is on the computer and watching ESPN. Maybe we should petition the hospital to spend a little on their patients and get the Food Network. Not sure how to do that but go see the President of the Hospital not Obama he can't do anything. He has he way the tv might come out of the room. That would not be a good thing. And WOW I am thrilled that the insurance paid it all that is impressive I think. Even Matt is doing some pretty impressive things, WAY TO GO. BIG HUGS COMING TO YOU.
