Saturday Late Afternoon

My Mom (Mrs. Pat) got here OK. She came bearing gifts.

She had several cards for Matthew and a couple for us. Thanks to the folks who sent money to help us. So many people have been a blessing to us in so many ways it just blows us away.

One thing really touched us, my nephew Robby said "God just show him what you can do". Such simple faith of a 6 year old. We can all learn a lesson from that.

Mom also brought a special present for Matt: a Saints football that is autographed by Drew Brees. Matt was very excited to receive this. My brother Rob and some friends of his arranged this. We'll post a picture of him with it later.

Medically, things are going well. He has had his first chemo treatment and will get more chemo drugs tonight and tomorrow night. Then he will start getting the "rescue" drugs. I put the full schedule in a previous post. They are monitoring him carefully for side effects and will take appropriate action if he develops any.

I have added an additional link to a excellent article on what Matt has at the National Cancer Institute. See links at left.

I am going back to New Orleans tomorrow while my Mom is here for a couple of weeks. After that, we'll see where he is on his treatment plan and figure out where to go from there.

By the way, if you don't have a favorite charity, check out Ronald McDonald House Charities. They do a great service for people in our situation all over the country. I know when this is all over, I'll be spending some time volunteering at our local RMD House.

  1. "God, just show him what you can do"! I love that if a 60 year old had said it, but even more so that a 6 years old did. And doesn't that just say it all? Out of the mouths of babes! What a testimony to his parents and family that have been such wonderful examples of love, faith and kindness! You are all an inspiration to so many. God bless you!

  2. John, Noel, and Matt,

Last night at church, we had communion, and right after communion, we sang "Jesus Messiah". During that song, I felt that God gave me a word for all of you .... He wants you to know that even though you might not understand why all this is happening, He wants to use Matt's story as for HIS Glory! He made me think of Peter walking on water, Peter did fine as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. When he took his eyes off Jesus, he faultered. Matt, keep your eyes on Jesus, He has you in HIS arms. Don't get discouraged, and God will use you as a mighty warrior to spread the word of how faith in God works!
