Tuesday Morning

Matt had a pretty rough night. The Ifosfamide is making him very fidgety and giving him some weird dreams. These are both know side effects of this drug and while unwelcome, they are not unexpected. The team has decided to not give him the last dose of Ifosfamide tonight. I need to talk to the doctors today to find out if they will substitute another drug in cycle 4 or try the Ifosfamide again.

Matt also has an infection in the trach area that is producing his mucus. They are giving him antibiotics for this and hopefully, this will clear up. They are going to do a trach change today (Trach Change Tuesday) and the nurse hopes that this will also help to clear things up a bit.

They have temporarily stopped his tube feeds because of all of this commotion. Hopefully, they will start again soon.

Noel had a good time with "the girls" last night which I am very happy about. In spite of that, she really longs to be back here with Matt. I guess she's having fun but she doesn't have to like it.

The road we're on is not a smooth one and it is likely to be bumpy for a while but we are on a road nonetheless and that is good. We have a destination now and a road map to get there and those are two things that I'm grateful for.

  2. Hi John and Matt--My devotional today was about giving thanks....Prepositions in our language seem like insignificant details, but they can make a BIG difference. The words "in" and "for" are an example. Paul wrote, "In everything give thanks". That doesn't mean that we have to be thankful for everything. We need not be thankful for sickness, bad doctors, rough nights, bumpy roads, but we can be thankful in the circumstances because the Lord Jesus can use the resulting difficulties for good. Knowing (it's still hard most times) that God can use ALL things for good is more than enough reason to give thanks in everything. Knowing and trusting that HE is behind the scenes in every trial, challenge, and difficulty working things out for our good and His glory.
God has not promised to keep us from life's storms, but, you all are proof that He will keep us through them.
We continue to pray and ask God to be Matt's keeper and that the Spirit of God rest upon him.
The Bertucci's rock and you are anchored to THE ROCK!!!! What do folks do that don't have Jesus to walk with them through life??
It was so good to see Noel today for some confetti therapy.

  3. You've got a lot of friends in God's family who'll be with y'all throughout the whole journey...bumpy or smooth. That's just what kingdom people do. The Lord reminds me often of Matt and to pray.
    Love,
    Susie
